Meet the beekeeper

Meet our local beekeeper from Belgium, where our Belgian honey comes from. With no fewer than 850 hives spread across various locations, he ensures a diverse range of honey varieties. Depending on where the bees gather their nectar, different types of honey are produced. Hawthorn honey is produced by bees whose hives are located in an area surrounded by a vast number of hawthorn hedges.

Product description

Bees that feed on the nectar of hawthorn blossoms in Belgium are the producers of hawthorn honey. These bees are primarily found in areas where hawthorn plants are abundant. The nectar they collect is converted by the bees into honey, which has a unique flavor reminiscent of hawthorn blossoms.

Taste

Hawthorn honey has a deliciously sweet flavor with a hint of fruitiness. Some people also notice a subtle almond flavor after tasting.

Texture

Hawthorn honey isn't thick or sticky when it's liquid, but rather smooth and easy to stir. You can easily mix it with other ingredients, such as in a recipe or your tea.

How can this honey be eaten/used?

Hawthorn honey is a delicious treat, and there are many ways to enjoy it. Here are some suggestions:

Raw: The simplest and perhaps best way to enjoy hawthorn honey is to taste it raw. Simply take a small amount with a spoon and savor the rich, luxurious flavors.

As an ingredient: You can also add hawthorn honey to various dishes, such as bread, fruit and yoghurt, for a subtle sweet flavour.

In tea: Add some hawthorn honey to your tea for a natural sweetness.

Note! If you want to add honey to your tea, make sure the tea is no warmer than 40 degrees Celsius. Above this temperature, the enzymes in the honey can become ineffective.

While you can eat hawthorn honey in a variety of ways, it's important to remember that the honey's unique properties are best preserved when eaten raw.

Shelf life

Although honey has the unique property of having a long shelf life, its flavor can change subtly over time. For the optimal taste experience, we recommend using honey within two years of purchase.

Allergen information

We do not recommend using Honingwinkel hawthorn honey for children under 1 year of age or for people who are allergic to bee products.
