Product description
Ivy honey is harvested by bees that collect nectar from the flowers of the ivy plant (Hedera helix), which blooms in autumn. This honey is rarer than many other varieties because ivy blooming occurs late in the season, and harvesting conditions are often challenging. Italian ivy honey comes from green and forested regions where ivy grows abundantly and is known for its distinct taste and unique texture.
Taste
Ivy honey has a robust, spicy flavor with earthy notes and a slightly bitter undertone. The taste is intense and less sweet than many other honey varieties, making it an interesting choice for those looking for a powerful and distinctive honey.
Texture
This honey crystallizes very quickly after harvest and therefore often has a firm, almost buttery texture. The color varies from light yellow to beige, depending on the degree of crystallization. Thanks to its firm texture, ivy honey is easy to spread and ideal as a bread topping.
How to eat/use the honey?
Ivy honey comes into its own on a slice of fresh bread or toasted toast, where its creamy texture and intense flavor are fully appreciated. It is also suitable for adding to warm milk or herbal tea, especially in the autumn and winter months, due to its warming and soothing properties.
Due to its distinct taste, ivy honey also pairs excellently with savory dishes, such as a cheese board with spicy or blue cheeses. Additionally, it can be used in marinades or dressings for a spicy, slightly bitter touch.
Allergen information
Ivy honey is a natural product and generally safe for consumption. Not suitable for children under 1 year. People with an allergy to bee products should be cautious. If in doubt, consult a doctor or allergist.
Shelf life
Honey naturally has a long shelf life. Due to rapid crystallization, the texture changes quite quickly, but this does not affect the quality. For an optimal taste experience, we recommend using ivy honey within two years of purchase. Store in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
