We were recently interviewed by the It's Up To Us platform, a community of people committed to a more sustainable world. In that conversation, Ahmet talked about his personal "spark"—the spark that was ignited in rural Turkey and continues to drive us today, both at home and in our family business , Honingwinkel.nl .
We'd like to share some insights from that wonderful conversation.
Growing up with nature
Ahmet grew up in a self-sufficient village, surrounded by nature. Everything came from his own garden or from local farmers. But when polluting industries arrived, he saw firsthand the consequences for the land, the people, and the future.
"That experience shaped me," he says. "I learned that balance with nature isn't a luxury, but a necessity."
From awareness to action
In the years that followed, sustainability remained central. Not only in our personal lives, but also in Ahmet's work as an entrepreneur, director, and supervisory board member. He led projects that planted hundreds of thousands of trees, and he ensures that sustainability is discussed in the boardroom—not as an afterthought, but as a starting point.
